Labour can be a confusing and sometimes quite frightening time. Fortunately, in the UK and the USA we enjoy excellent standards of Obstetric and Maternity care.
Our Obstetricians and Midwives are trained to very high standards.
However, things can, and do, go wrong. Injuries to a child during or prior to delivery are relatively uncommon. Whilst many injuries are unavoidable consequences of labour, often mistakes are made which lead to unnecessary, and avoidable, injuries to a child.
Where such an injury has occurred as a result of incompetence on behalf of Obstetric or Midwifery staff, a claim may be successfully brought to recover compensation for the child’s injuries.
There are a number of common injuries to children that occur during birth which are on occasions inflicted through negligence or malpractice.
Such injuries include:
Cerebral Palsy
Erb’s Palsy
Facial Palsy
Neonatal death or stillbirth
When an injury is caused through negligence, you will no doubt be angry. Often it is difficult to obtain answers from medical staff in relation to what went wrong.
